I saw this morning at a local television station some news that amazed me. The first one was about one of the largest mobile operator in the world, Vodafone. The title of the news was: "Lost client database, it has been declared annulled. The reason for this action was that some hackers broke in one of Vodafone's databases and sent different meaningless messages to the clients that were in that database. Now I don't know how it could happen to Vodafone, who is thought to be a major player in the mobile industry. After this incident, I think that Vodafone has lost the trust of some of its clients and that wasn't the only thing it lost. Some of them may have given up the contracts signed with Vodafone. Fortunately, I have a contract with another major mobile operator in Romania, Orange, that doesn't have any problems with hacking…yet.
In other news was something about a Romanian bank, called BRD. The e-mail users received an e-mail from a site that was a copy of the official site of BRD so that the ones who received the e-mails think it's the real thing. This method is often called "phishing". In that e-mail they were asked to give their personal information (user and password, card number, expiry date, PIN code). All that for a so called "benefit" from BRD
BRD took immediate measures to block this attempt to steal personal data and the security of the informatics system that sustains the function of the internet banking service of BRD-Net was not a moment threatened.
BRD reminded their customers, that in any circumstances they won't ask for personal information like username, password, card number and the PIN code over the internet. That kind of information must not be told under any reason to anyone, even the bank itself.
So from now on, read your mails carefully! You may wake up one day with no money in your account.
